Intelligence Information Enemy Units WinACE gets information about enemy units from five sources: spy, recon, look, coastwatch, and skywatch. Enemy units show up as red counters. Because these commands don't automatically force the map to redraw, new enemy units may not show up until the next time the screen repaints. Note: WinACE defines enemy units as any units that are not yours. WinACE doesn't care if the units belong to someone you are allied with, or someone you are at war with. They both are considered "enemy" units. Tip: WinACE will put units on the map when it first spies them, but once they are there it will not automatically remove them. You must manually remove them by using the "Delete" and "Hide" keys in the Unit Box. (Example: You do a coastwatch and pick up a battleship and a heavy cruiser off your coast. You send out a sub and torp the bb until it sinks. The hc takes off out of coastwatch range. You do another coastwatch, which now shows nothing. However, the bb and the hc will still show on your map in their last known positions. You should manually delete the bb, and hide the hc (since its still out there somewhere)) Tip: Ships showing on sonar or radar are not automatically added to the Enemy database, nor are ships you find out about via Bulletins. (This is slated as a future enhancement) Tip: To clear all enemy information at once, take the "clear" option from the file menu. This is especially handy if you are re-using a database from a previous game (such as a blitz database). Enemy Sector Information WinACE gets information about enemy sectors from four sources: spy, recon, look, and bmap. Enemy sector information is displayed with you click on that sector (if you have any info on it!). The time stamp at the bottom of the display tells you how old the information is. Last known information will always be displayed. |
